GMC No: 6056068

I completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Glasgow and graduated in 2002. I worked in Glasgow for a year before moving to Nottingham, to undertake junior psychiatric training. I first encountered the field of gender dysphoria at the specialist clinic there and spent time observing assessment and treatment appointments.

I moved to the North East in 2006, in order to commence higher training in old age psychiatry. When I arrived in Sunderland, the Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service had just been established and I developed a special interest in and a passion for the field, alongside training in old age psychiatry. I started working in the service in 2007, initially as a higher trainee.

After completing my psychiatry training, I was appointed to the role of consultant in gender dysphoria in January 2010, firstly as a locum, and took on the role of clinical lead in June of that year. I worked in both old age psychiatry and gender dysphoria as a consultant, in two half time posts for 4 years. Ultimately, however, I decided to focus on gender dysphoria.  Now I work part-time, as a consultant and the clinical lead for the service.
