Residents from a Northumberland town expressed their gratitude to the NHS on its 70th birthday.
On a warm summers day over 300 adults and children from Morpeth signed a giant birthday card to express their thanks to the NHS.
The card was presented to Shirley Wakefield, Associate Nurse Director and a group of staff from St George’s Park, which is part of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW), a provider of mental health and disability services, by Tom Cosh, Vice Chair for Morpeth and Pegswood Labour party.
It was a lovely gesture by the residents of Morpeth. It is a great town to be involved with; there is always a sense of community spirit. On behalf of NTW I would like to thank every resident who signed this card

Within two hours of standing on Morpeth High Street, the card was full. Many residents shared their heartfelt stories of care that they or their family had received. These stories reflected on the dedication and compassion that NHS staff have.
Callum Bell, Branch Secretary, Morpeth and Pegswood Labour party said: “St George’s Park and Northgate are part of Morpeth’s community spirit and have been for many years. We are incredibly lucky to have such amazing facilities on our doorstep and it was a tremendous privilege to be able to present the card to staff that do such an amazing job.”
The birthday card will be on display at St George’s Park for a week, it will then be taken on a roadshow around other NHS organisations in the area.
