Forensic Community Service (North East and Cumbria) – CNTW061

The Forensic Community Service (FCS) is a regional service which provides care and treatment for adults (both male and female) who have a history of offending and/or pose a risk to others. Our service users have come into contact with the criminal justice system and have been within the secure in-patient pathway, and we provide Care Co-ordination for these patients upon discharge.

The primary aims of the FCS are to provide in-reach into secure in-patients to work towards discharge, to reduce length of stay in secure beds, reduce re-admission and provide an ongoing service in the community using interventions based on NHS England’s ’12 components of Care’, a biopsychosocial model.

The service currently operates during working hours of Monday to Friday (9am-5pm). The team covers the whole of the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust footprint. There is also some working into Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust as part of the Provider Collaborative.

The team also provides scaffolding and risk advice to other mental health services. This is done through access to our Forensic Liaison Clinics. To access these, teams are required to complete a referral form
